The genius of composer and guitarist Roland Dyens is otherworldly. His spell is cast by an exquisite, seamless intertwining of passion and precision that transports the listener beyond the concert hall into realms unknown. He is hailed as being among the most innovative and complete musicians of his generation. We can see many musicians of a variety of talents, but it is rare tosee such a genius as shows distinguished abilities in all the fields of music. In this point, Dyens' genius must be a gift with which God blessed him.
In parallel with his studies as an instrumentalist, Roland Dyens also pursued conducting with equal enthusiasm, studying with the French composer and conductor Désiré Dondeyne.
Among the awards that he received at the early stages of his career are the Special Prize of the International Competition of Alessandria and the Grand Prize of the Charles-Cros Academia for his recording Hommage á Villa Lobos. A laureate of the Menuhin Foundation, in 1988, Roland Dyens was classed among the 100 best contemporary guitarists of all styles by the magazine Guitarist.
Roland Dyens, praised to be the greatest existing classic guitarist, was born on the 19th of October 1955. He began to study the guitar when he was nine years old. Later he studied with the Spanish master Alberto Ponce in a class where he obtained, in 1976, the Licence de concert from L'Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.
Today, his compositions and arrangements are performed around the world to unanimous praise and enthusiasm. Truly, his work sheds new light on the possibilities of the guitar. Because of his unique talent and the originality of his music, he must be considered one of the most innovative and complete musicians of our time.
Especially, of his arrangements, "Tango en Skai", "Libra Sonatine", "Saudades No.3" have been played by many other guitarists as part of their repertoires very often and they are also very popular works for recording products. First af all, "Tango en Skai" is a contribution to make the name, Roland Dyens well-known to the world, and it is regarded as the best hit in today's classic guitar world. Actually this fascinating piece has already begun to be included in Korean and foreign guitarists' repertoires. Besides, a lot of guitarists all over the world including a Japanese guitarist, Muraji Kaori have selected this piece for their encore.
In addition to his enthusiastic activities as a quitarist Roland Dyens is teaching at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
